THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

Charity helps us to know the truth and the truth calls for acts of kindness.

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend a second collection is taken up to benefit the Senior Priests Retirement Fund. This annual collection is most necessary to support the many retired priests who have served the Diocese of Providence in    various parishes throughout the state for many decades. They depend upon the monthly income they    receive from the Diocese to help sustain their expenses of lodging, food, transportation and other necessities in life. Many of them have very limited social security or other forms of income to supplement the pension they receive from the Diocese. The Diocese is most fortunate because with  declining vocations and active priests taking on more  responsibilities in pastoring more than one parish many of these senior priests who are physically able make themselves available to serve in parishes on a limited basis. I know a good many of them since they had been serving parishes when I had begun my first parish assignment in 1973 as a deacon assistant before ordination to the priesthood. These men are very committed priests who gave their best to parish ministry witnessing to Jesus Christ in so many different ways according to each one’s particular gifts. Because of their dedication and love for the Church, some of them remained in active ministry for years after the optional retirement age of 70 before moving to a senior status. They are most deserving of the modest pensions they now receive. Thank you for being generous in             supporting their cause. God bless your week!

SAINT ANTHONY CHURCH SOUND SYSTEM

As of this writing a new sound system will be installed which will solve the problems experienced over the years.  Complaints have been ongoing even after a complete overall of the system with new wiring, equipment and speakers almost two years ago. But the  shortcomings were never resolved as many parishioners continued to comment that amplified voices could not be heard in certain parts of the church. One of the biggest complaints referred to the vocalists during the liturgy. After consulting out of state sound engineers, a New York company was chosen to install a new state of the art system which is guaranteed to meet the needs of liturgy. The principle engineer, Alex Rosner, a very talented man who has been in business for decades, servicing many churches and synagogues, and is a Holocaust survivor. His background and experience among the lives saved and documented in the movie       “Schlinder’s List” can be found on his website www.rosnersound.com.
